Stress and Reflexology

Stress is an unavoidable part of daily living: how an individual copes is what makes the difference.

Stress may be brought about by job pressure, family problems, bereavement, illness or just modern day life. Short term stress can often be dealt with by taking positive action to deal with the cause or by taking time out to relax. However, long term stress may cause health problems. Worrying and feeling anxious may worsen the situation leading to increased stress levels.

Stress related illnesses can include:-

  • ❖ Headaches
  • ❖ Migraine
  • ❖ Depression
  • ❖ Menstrual problems
  • ❖ Low immune system*
  • ❖ Arthritis
  • ❖ Constipation
  • ❖ Colds/flu
  • ❖ Insomnia
  • ❖ Eczema
  • ❖ Anxiety
  • ❖ Digestive disorders
  • ❖ High blood pressure
* An ineffective immune system allows susceptibility
to infections and strain is put on the internal organs

The negative effects of emotions, stress and lifestyle can cause imbalance in the body. If one part of the body does not work efficiently the whole body can suffer. This can lead to aches and pains, tiredness and a general feeling of being run down.

Reflexology can help the effects of stress by calming the sympathetic nervous system, causing a reduction in the release of adrenaline. This will leave the client in a calmer and more relaxed state allowing the body to rebalance and therefore restore homeostasis.
